Cassandra Powell-Troy

Cassandra Lamese Powell-Troy know to some as “Sapphier” but affectionately known as “Cassie”. Born January 9, 1969 to Lonnie and Marie Powell. In early childhood, she attended Robert E. Lee Elementary and would go on to graduate in May of 1987 from Duncan Senior High School. After high school, Cassie would attend Red River Vo-tech where she would be the recipient of many academic awards. She would go on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Graduating (w/Honors) Magna cum laude. Between her degree and love for working with children, the elderly, and disabled; Cassie would go on to utilize her degree in many ways. She taught and assisted with the Duncan Public Schools and worked at Granny’s Daycare. Cassie was very knowledgeable in the Bible and accepted Christ into her life at an early age. She was baptized at Jones Chapel COGIC, under the leadership of Supt. N.H. James. She served faithfully in the Sunshine Band, Bible Band, YPWW, C.I.T.Y, Senior Choir, Youth for Christ, and youth Sunday School teacher. She was so good at hair braiding; she was known for it around her community. Among her many other talents, she loved sewing and crocheting. Cassie loved her mother as they were inseparable, she didn’t play when it came to her sisters, and she had a genuine overall love for her family and friends. The joy and pride of her life were her children and grandchildren. Oh how she loved her grands, they were her heartbeat. She even gifted each everyone a nickname. Cassandra met and married Raymond Troy Sr. in Duncan, Oklahoma. They would build a life there before relocating to Irving, TX. Upon moving to Texas, Cassie would become a member of Prayer Tower COGIC in Grand Prarie, TX. Under the leadership of Pastor Christopher Allen Moore. While living in Texas, she should complete multiple certifications towards her licensing in Caregiving and Rehabilitation. All the while settling into her new role as “Nana”. Cassandra Lamese Powell-Troy was called to eternal rest on January 18, 2025, in Arlington Texas. Cassie-Nana-Sally-Sapphire-BossT, Will be missed dearly by all those who loved, knew, and had the pleasure of gracing her presence. She will never be forgotten. Cherishing her memory are her 4 children Cedric (Wendy) Powell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cody Powell of Duncan, Oklahoma, Cherelle Powell of Arlington, Texas, Raymond Troy Jr. of Duncan, Oklahoma. Fourteen Grandchildre: Adrian, Mya, Jayden, Fantasia, CayLeigh, Aleigha, Aniyah, Brooklyn, Corrie, Kelonnie, Arryah, Keytn, Kyla, Ky’Ala. Three beloved sisters and host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Cassie is proceeded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Marie Powell. Siblings, Mary, Daniel, Tyrone Scott, and Lonnie Jr., As well as one daughter, Mary Helen Troy.
