Charlie Mae Fisher

OBITUARY Charlie Mae Fisher, née Taylor was born to Katherine Hayden and Wyzoa Taylor on January 17,1943 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Charlie was the first born child with five siblings; Billie Jean Reyes (Toney) Batavia, Illinois, Willie Lee Proctor (Ray Etta) Elgin, Illinois, Thurman Lawrence Hayden, Linda Marie Peeples Chickasha, OK, and Deborah Louise Burdex Chickasha, OK. On August 15, 2024, Charlie Mae Fisher began her journey to God peacefully in her sleep in San Diego, California surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Charlie attended Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Chickasha High School, where she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Bernard Wilkins Fisher. On December 30, 1961, they married and began an exciting life together, that they would cherish forever. They were blessed with two children, Travis Warren Fisher and Vanetta Dawn Fisher-Miller. Charlie was fortunate enough to have strong dedicated women in her life, who wanted to invest in her prosperous future. With their help and guidance, she was able to proudly attend The Oklahoma College for Women. She successfully completed two years of college and was a member of the Phi Beta Lambda Club for Business Majors. Charlie went on to make a beautiful life with her husband and children, eventually moving to Seattle and settling in Denver where they would raise their children. She encouraged her kids to pursue higher education and participate in after-school sports. She was an amazing ‘Sports Mom’ and never missed her kid’s practices or competitions. Charlie’s son went on to become a doctor of Internal Medicine in 1990 and has flourished in the field of medicine ever since. Her daughter earned a Masters of Business Administration in 2010 and has been able to utilize her degree in many aspects of her life. Charlie was her kid’s biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader. That was her way of showing her dedication and pride for her children’s work ethic and accomplishments. In addition to her role as a dedicated wife and mother, she personally found new challenges and experiences through her career opportunities. She worked for three major aerospace companies: Honeywell, Boeing and Sunstrand. Charlie found her niche at Sundstrand Aerospace Corporation, where she was a production receiving/ inspection coordinator for over twenty years. She loved her job and took great pride in her work and dedication to the company. She was the recipient of multiple awards like employee of the month and set incredible standards for the highest quality control percentages in the company’s history at that time. Her attention to detail and accuracy lead to her maintaining and exceeding performance goals. All of which added value to the growth of the company as she was highly regarded as an expert in her field. Charlie loved her job and was an asset to the company. After retiring from Sundstrand, Charlie and Bernie decided to settle down in Elgin, Texas as they began the next chapter of their life. That little town would soon find out that she personifies the Irish proverb; “there are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t met yet.” Charlie had her workout friends, coffee and doughnut friends, her grocery store friends, travel friends, party friends, ‘Bid Whist' friends, gardening friends, neighborhood friends and her basketball fanatic friends, all of which to her, meant extended family. Charlie loved sharing her lively spirit and zest for life with everyone she met. She enjoyed having get togethers and bbq’s while relishing being the life of the party. But make no mistake, she was a giver at heart. She took pride in helping others by giving of her time and resources. Both Charlie and Bernie enjoyed being closer to Chickasha and finding peace and joy in one another. Charlie was of strong spiritual faith and a devout Christian. Her journey with Christ began at a young age as a member of the Church of the Living God, which set a strong foundation of her faith that would endure throughout her lifetime. She would impart her morals, beliefs and values to her children, along with fellowshipping with family and friends. Charlie played a pivotal role in her children’s lives by instilling her dedication for higher education because she wanted an even better life for her kids. She was an extremely loyal and loving wife and devoted mother. Charlie will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She lived life unapologetically and her spirit shines bright like no other. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Bernard Fisher; her mother, Katherine Hayden; grandmother, Mary Jones; uncle, Eddie Jones; uncle, Charlie Jones; aunt, Lula Mae Jones; brother, Thurman Hayden; and loving cousins Olivia Richardson, Mary Williams, Andrew Parker, Alisa Sledge, and Starlene Nash. Those left to cherish her wonderful memory include her loving children Travis Fisher and Vanetta Fisher-Miller; her grandsons, Avion Miller and Duane Miller; Son-in-Law, Andre’ Miller; siblings, Billie Reyes, Willie Lee Proctor, Linda Peeples and Deborah Burdex, plus a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
