James E. Jackson

James E. Jackson, born November 12, 1946, in Oklahoma City, OK to Nathaniel Jackson and Dora Norfor. James moved to Chickasha, OK as a youth and he was very active from the start. He channeled his active nature by excelling in many athletic endeavors. Noticed for his talent in athletics, James was recruited to play with the 1958 Chickasha Little League All-Stars baseball team. James played many sports throughout his childhood and he went on to letter in football, basketball, baseball and track at Chickasha High School. Although baseball was his preferred sport, in 1963, James was a member of the Men’s Varsity Basketball team when they went “all the way” and won the 4A State Championship. James graduated Chickasha High School in 1964 and soon after was drafted into the US Army. After completing his service, James returned to Chickasha where began a career in fire service with the Chickasha Fire Department and started a family. In 1969, James was joined in marriage to Alice Taylor Jackson. To their union, daughters Tesa and Dwana were born. While caring for his young family and working at the Chickasha Fire Department, James earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. In 1989, James’ wife was called to be with the Lord and he became a single parent to his two daughters. In 1991, James married JoAnn Taylor and gained another daughter, TaLisha. After working in fire service for more than 20 years, James retired from the Chickasha Fire Department in 1994. His active nature and continued desire to serve led him back into the workforce. James went on to work with Chickasha Head Start, where he remained for over 20 years. After retiring for a second time, James and JoAnn traveled the US and abroad, taking many trips to visit grandchildren as well as other family and friends. Throughout his life James was an active member at First & Georgia Church of Christ. His commitment to serve the Lord led him into various leadership roles within the congregation. James continued to be a faithful member of the church until his death. Preceding him in death are his father, Nathaniel; mother, Dora; brother, Nathaniel Jr.; wife Alice Taylor; and sister, Charlene. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn; daughters Tesa Jackson of Oklahoma City, TaLisha (Chris) King of Decatur, GA and Dwana (Daryl) Killian of Mableton, GA. and grandchildren Ian Killian, Christian King, Layla King and Sydney Killian. As well as siblings Ladonna Richardson; Laverne (Callie) Ellis; Francis McCurray and Jimmie Ellis; and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
