Tony Maurice McCurdy

January 14, 1959 - March 23, 2021

Tony Maurice McCurdy is the fourth of seven children born to Bob Lee McCurdy and Bertha Jane McCurdy (Hughes) in Welch, Virginia. The McCurdy’s were a military family so Tony grew up on military bases and graduated from the Department of Defense Overseas Dependents Schools on January 27, 1977 from Baumholder American High School. He went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University and a Master Degree in Business Administration/Healthcare Management from Columbia University. On June 5, 1982, Tony and Joyce Jefferson were united in Holy Matrimony in Lawton, OK. They raised a handsome son Stephen Jarrell and a beautiful daughter Teena Shard’e Nicole. Tony was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber then left Lawton, OK in 1983 and joined the United States Air Force. His distinguished record of service to his country included serving overseas tours in Korea, Italy, and Turkey as well as stateside assignments at Beale Air Force Base (AFB) California and Sheppard AFB, Texas. He served honorably receiving many accolades and awards to include: Air Force Commendation Medal w/3 devices, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon w/2 devices, National Defense Service Award w/ 3 devices, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with/1 device, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Unit Award with/1 device, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with/5 devices. Military Education: Basic Military Training, 6 weeks, Jan 84; NCO Leadership School, Feb 89; Command NCO Academy, Dec 93; USAF Senior Academy, May 05; Accounting Liaison, Sep 02; Financial Management (Staff Officer), Jul 99; Speaking & Briefing, May 90; Fiscal Law, Feb 94; Fiscal & Appropriations Law, Feb 03; Financial Services Specialist, Mar 84; OJT Trainer/Supervisor Familiarization, Apr 87; Travel Course, Jun 87; Budget Course, Dec 89. He served 21 years in the military and retired at Sheppard Air Force Base at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) as the Superintendent of the 82nd Comptroller Squadron (CPTS). After retirement he joined the Civil Service where he served as the Resource Manager for the 82nd Medical Group. He later returned to the 82nd CPTS as a Budget Analyst. Upon his death, he was employed at the Federal Aviation Administration as the Travel Section Supervisor. Tony additionally was a faithful member of Sheppard AFB, Gospel Worship Service where he served as a devoted usher and supported the youth group. Tony had a heart of gold toward youth and mentoring them in career and life choices. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Bertha Jane McCurdy; brothers Gerald and William Robert McCurdy; and sister, Lynn McCurdy. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Joyce McCurdy of Wichita Falls, Texas; son Stephen of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Teena of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren: Jordan and Mya of Boston, Massachusetts and Kamryn of the home. His father Bob McCurdy (Sinotra) of Killeen, Texas; brothers Danny (Irlanka), Bob (Veronica), and DeWayne (Chantae). God children: Derrius, Aaliyah, Audrianna and Emari. He is also mourned by a host of relatives and friends.
