William Floyd Thomas

August 8, 1935 - April 1, 2022

Heaven's angels tapped on William Thomas' shoulder to tell him it was time to transition to see the King on April 1, 2022 at 1:25 a.m. William Floyd Thomas (Big Brother) was born August 11, 1935, the oldest of identical twins, with Ernest Lloyd Thomas. He was one of five children born to Percy and Ophelia Thomas in Altus, Oklahoma. He and his twin Ernest were very close. If you saw one you saw the other. They had a genuine love for their parents and would do anything in the world for Big Mama (Ophelia Thomas). William was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma and was baptized at an early age, was a member of the GA's and Shepherd Boys League youth group. He had a love for music and in his younger days loved to dance. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends, taking long rides in the country side for relaxation, watching greyhound dogs run and fishing in the Tom Steed Lake. After attending Lincoln Elementary and Lincoln High School, William went to work at the Altus Cotton Compress where he worked for over 40 years. In those forty years he was a supervisor in Frederick, Oklahoma and at the Chickasha Compress. He worked various odd jobs which included driving a hay truck for the Powell Company. At the age of eighteen, William married Billie Joyce Booker. To this union, his two oldest sons were born, Billy Glen Thomas (Luretha) and Caster D. Thomas (Eileen) of Chickasha, Oklahoma; Eddie Booker of Lawton, Oklahoma. After moving to Snyder, Oklahoma, William united with Velma Jean Atkinson. To this union, six children were born; Michael Thomas of Snyder, Oklahoma; Kenneth (Janice) Thomas of Lawton, Oklahoma; Lynn (Jenna) Atkinson of Snyder, Oklahoma; Richard (Annette) Atkinson of Hobart, Oklahoma; Coval (Shamika) Thomas of Lawton, Oklahoma; Patricia Brown of San Antonia, Texas; Donneita Atkinson of Lawton, Oklahoma. William has one surviving brother, Danny Boyd Thomas (Betty) of Amarillo, Texas; 29 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ophelia and Percy Thomas; brother, Ernest Thomas; sister, Artie Mae Thomas; sons, Billy Glen Thomas, and Benny Atkinson; daughter, Cynthia Atkinson(Muse).
