Dorothy Mae McKenzie

Dorothy Mae Daniels-McKenzie, 97, entered into eternal rest on June 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, Born on February 7, 1929, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the late Jessie Lee Mosley and Willie Bee Daniels. She received her education through the Chickasha Public School System and carried throughout her life the values of faith, hard work, compassion, and perseverance. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and began her Christian journey at Shepherd Street (Disciples of Christ) Christian Church under the leadership of the late Reverend John B. Holmes. She later united with Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she faithfully worshipped and served under the leadership of the late Reverend C.T. Shannon. She united in marriage with Richard Russell Mckenzie of Scranton, South Carolina. To this union 11 children were born; seven sons and 4 daughters. She dedicated many years of service to work for Delta Faucet, where she was admired for her dependability, and strong work ethic. Dorothy worked faithfully until her retirement in 1996. Known affectionately as the heart and glue of the family, Dorothy believed family was one of God’s greatest blessings and worked tirelessly to nurture, encourage, and support those she loved. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a listening ear, wise advice, or a heartfelt prayer, she made everyone feel valued and loved. Dorothy’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. For more than 30 years, she served as a foster parent, opening her home and heart to children in need. She provided stability, guidance, discipline, and unconditional love to countless young lives. Her impact on those children cannot be measured, and many continued to call her family long after leaving her care. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Russell McKenzie; her sons, Kervin Michael McKenzie; Richard Darnell McKenzie; and Heister Lamar McKenzie; her brothers, James Mozell Johnson; Willie B. Daniels Jr.; Walter J. Daniels; and her beloved aunt, Ewilder Holloway. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children: Justus McKenzie of Sacramento, California; Ronald McKenzie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Travis (Angela) McKenzie of Mustang, Oklahoma; Wallace McKenzie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Patricia McKenzie of Fresno, California; Karen (Larry) Buckner of Mansfield, Texas; Leatrice McKenzie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Dorothea McKenzie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind one sister, Wilma Jean Hicks of Roswell, New Mexico; one brother, Russell D. Wright of Roswell, New Mexico; 29 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of family members, friends, and countless lives touched by her love. Today, we celebrate a remarkable woman, a faithful servant of God, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, foster parent, and friend. While our hearts mourn her absence, we rejoice in knowing that she has heard the words: “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.” Acknowledgements The family of Dorothy Mae McKenzie extends heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, expressions of sympathy, acts of kindness, and loving support shown during this difficult time.
