Juanita Hicks-Brown

Juanita Hicks Brown was born to Houston Sr. and Ida Mae Hicks in Chickasha, OK on December 16, 1932. She was the baby of five children. She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and attended college at Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a dedicated servant at Shepherd Street Christian Church in volved in the women’s mission, prayer meetings, bible study, and the choir. Juanita had various jobs throughout her life from being a teacher’s aide, working at Century Manufacturing, lead housekeeper at Best Western, and Community Action as a Community Organizer. It was as a Community Organizer where she found her passion of being a servant to others, through her many acts of charity including giving away commodities, clothing, or doing income taxes. She retired in 2003. Juanita married the love of her life Willie James Brown in 1956. From this union six children were born (Crystal, Bob, Willie Joe, Timothy, Carla, and Nicole). She was instrumental in helping her husband start his trucking company (Brown & Sons Trucking). She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, watching her soap operas, and spending time with her grandkids and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Willie James Brown, son Bob Brown, parents Houston Sr. and Ida Mae Hicks, her siblings, Houston Hicks Jr., Anna Mae Shackelford, Hugh Milton Hicks, Mary Evelyn Bowens, her niece Theresa Higgins, and nephew Carl Shackelford, her uncles Earnest Coffey Sr., Buster Coffey, and her aunt Christine Robinson, a son-in-law Gerald Orange Sr., and a daughter-in-law Linda Brown. She is survived by five of her children, Crystal Orange of Chickasha, OK, Willie Joe Brown of Oklahoma City, OK, Timothy Brown Sr., (Keivon) of Tulsa, OK, Carla Brown of Chickasha, OK, and Nicole Brown of Moore, OK, 13 grandchildren, Gerald Jr., Kendra, Jatona, Antonio, Timothy Jr., Keisha, Zachary, Alexis, Saul, T’ryan, Colby, Dessica and Kmeon (a very special grandson who took care of his Nonnie for the last 5 years). At last count 11 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Juanita, also known as, Momma, Granny, Nonnie, or Aunt Juanita would say “don’t cry for me, I’m at peace. This is not goodbye but see you later”.
